TOUR 10

Proboscis Monkey Tour

This popular tour consists of a leisurely cruise through the mangroves in search of the wild Proboscis Monkey, which are found only in Borneo. Before entering the mangrove forest we will pass the famous Kampong Ayer and Sultan’s Palace (Istana Nurul Iman). 

This tour is designed for you to see and understand the habitat and ecology of this elusive creature, which has excited the curiosity of visitors to Borneo since colonial times. The pendulous pink noses and potbellies of the adult males reminded locals of Europeans, and this gave them their local name of Orang Belanda, or “Ducthman”. Local populations have been decreasing and they need your help to prevent them from becoming an endangered species. Your experienced guide will explain how you can help to protect the proboscis monkey

Explanations on Nipah palm and Mangrove forest will be given and an opportunity to witness other wildlife in the area. White-bellied Sea Eagles, Great White Egrets and King Fishers are commonly seen. We may be lucky enough to encounter a Salt-water Crocodile or Monitor lizard. Other mammals include otters, flying foxes, and long tail macaques. Mangrove snakes and pythons may be observed on overhanging branches.

Selirong Island Escapade

Selirong Island is just 45 minutes boat ride from the city center and offers bird watchers and nature lovers the chance to indulge in a feast of flora and fauna. These mangrove swamps are home to Probiscus Monkeys and Flying Foxes as well as numerous species of birds or even the elusive Mangrove Snake.

TOUR 12

Merimbun Heritage Park

You will travel by road from Bandar Seri Begawan, a 1½ hours drive into the heart of the Tutong District. Tasek Merimbun is the largest black water lake in Brunei Darussalam. The Park, which was declared an ASEAN National Heritage site in 1984, covers 7,800 hectares. The area is made up of extensive tracts of primary and secondary rainforest, coupled with large areas of peat swamp forest. The park has a rich flora and fauna and this unique biodiversity has attracted both local and foreign researchers. The area is home to a variety of wildlife, including Borneo Gibbons, Maroon Languor’s, crocodiles, many birds, and more than 40 species of dragonfly. The area is also interesting botanically, and has numerous pitcher plants and orchids.  

The Tasek area has yielded some interesting archaeological finds. Descriptions of the history and examples of the finds can be found in Tasek Merimbun Heritage Museum. The local Dusun people make use of the purun sedge that grows around the lakeside for various handicrafts, including basket weaving, floor matting, and roof panel construction.

TOUR 13

Kuala Balai Traditional Longhouse

Special rites and customs have been woven into the culture and lifestyle of the Bruneian Malays to inculcate a sense of spiritual and communal belonging, the “Belait Malays” especially. A visit to Kampong Kuala Balai is like stepping back in time to a lost era. Kuala Balai, once have the largest community in the west of Brunei. The day’s when Belait river, where the main highway for the villagers with a hard rowing in Jumpong (boat) to travel around. Villagers grew crops, fished and famous for their ambulong (sago) producing. 

An approximately 2 hours trip in air-condition bus from Bandar Seri Begawan to Kampong Kuala Balai in Kuala Belait District. We will stop at local restaurant for breakfast, Tutong District.  

Walk on the plank bridge to traditional house. It is the villager’s customs to take off shoes before entering their house. You will be seated on the floor with tikar lampit (woven rattan mattress) followed by introduction of the traditional lifestyle, culture and building materials used to build the traditional house.  

A short boat ride crossing Belait River’s to the freshwater swamp forest for jungle trekking. You should be aware that there are no clearly defined trails in this area and that that some places may be muddy, wet, and slippery and water level will reach to your knee during high tide. Gain some knowledge about the difference species of plants used in traditional herbs, medicines, and jungle surviving. Enjoy listening, the mixer of the sound and song made by insects, birds and other wild animals.    

Local traditional lunch foods produced locally from the Kampong Kuala Balai itself. It’s a must try our famous Bruneian food, “Ambuyat” to complete your visit to our lovely and peaceful Kampong. 

Discover the secret of Sago processing using the old technology like simple machines are used to grate and stomping the scrap on the platforms over the river to extract the milk in traditional way, which you will actually doing by yourself. Boat ride on to other side was a wooden box on stilts contains some 13 or more human skulls said to be the head of villager’s enemies. They are believed to be haunted and should not be touched in deference to superstition. Yet more precious by far are glimpses of living cultural heritage you’ll discover through this comprehensive trip. 

1430hrs Depart Kuala Balai for Bandar Seri Begawan we will be expecting to Arrive Bandar Seri Begawan by 1600hrs.
